Hair loss on cat's tail?
I have a 1 year old cat sterilized that has a problem with hair loss. It is losing hair in patches on the tail. No loss of hair on the rest of his body. We have seen the vet, and she is not excessivly toilet. We changed her diet from dry Natural Balance, Innova Evo wet unimproved, so that an allergy is unlikely. She is feline leukemia negative, and he has a thyroid problem. Before bringing her back for a visit Veterinary Secondly, does anyone have any idea on what could be causing this? She is an animal only, only indoors.
It could be a skin allergy to something the cat comes in contact constantly as bedding or carpet. It could be a carpet cleaner or detergent, or just an allergy developed for a particular food or food ingredient. Check the cat's tail to see if any fleas or ticks. Start by trying to cut down where your cat spends most of the time and see if removing access to this area or object alleviates hair loss. If this fails, you can try to gradually return to a premium brand cat food. Sometimes even the ingredients in cat food, when transferred through licking, can cause skin irritation, flakiness and result in loss hair. If it persists, I advise you to take the cat to the vet for further examination. Hope this helps and good luck!
