Losing Hair Around Ankles

is my cat infected??
i was just outside with my cat(he likes to take walks on a leash) and my neighbors cat came up and started rubbing on my legs. my cat doesnt like this so he raised his (declawed) paw like he was going to “attack” and the neighbor cat flinched and turned around where i saw his back leg. it looks like he lost his hair and theres a space where theres no skin, and at like the ankle part you can see the bone.
my question is, does this cat have a disease? or did one of the neighborhood dogs get him? should i be worried about my cat? give him a bath, and stuff… idk help me out here!!!!!
I very much doubt your cat has “caught” something from the other cat.
Did you see any area on the other cat that looked infected, that looked swollen or was draining pus or other liquids? If not, there is probably no danger to your cat from contact with this other cat.
Are you sure you could see bone on the other cat? I ask because some cats have skin that is very white and might look like bone from even a short distance. A cat’s skin on their legs is tightly drawn around the bones and can be mistaken as bare bone.
When cats fight, the loser often gets bitten badly on a hind leg, as they try and run away, and this can result in an abscess which often needs to be drained by a vet.
Generally, but not always, the presence of such a wound indicates that the cat “lost” the fight.
I would definitely talk to your neighbors about their cat’s condition.
It’s possible that they know about the wound. They may have taken the cat to the vet to have it treated.
On the other hand, they may not know about the wound and perhaps your pointing it out will get them to take the cat to the vet.
I would definitely ask them about the wound.
And, again, I doubt there is any danger to your cat from this minor contact – if indeed there was any actual contact at all – with the other cat.
By the way, congratulations on getting your cat to “walk” on a leash. Few people are able to get a cat to do that.
It provides you a way to safely give him some outside time.
I will not let a cat outside unless they are on a leash and I’ve never been able to get one to walk on a leash. They simply sit down and refuse to move or try their best to pull away.
You neighbors should not be allowing their cat to run outside. Look at the injury it has acquired. That’s the clearest sign that it’s not safe for cats outside that anyone could every see.
